KLU Takes Home 6th Place at the Alster President’s Cup, Hamburg’s University Regatta

After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on July 7th Hamburg once again hosted its prestigious university regatta. For the 20th time, teams from nine Hamburg-based universities gathered at University Sport Hamburg’s sailing dock to duel for the President’s Cup. KLU, which took home the cup in 2019, came in sixth this year. In a photo-finish, the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (HFBK) took first place, just edging out Universität Hamburg.

The balmy race day was characterized by faltering winds with sporadic gusts – which meant that, in some cases, making headway required being in the right place at the right time. As a result, there were a number of position changes in the course of the five rounds. As in previous years, each boat’s crew included at least one member of the respective university’s administration. For KLU, Chancellor Fabian Berger, Dean of Programs Christian Barrot, and Ph.D. candidates Keno Theile and Gero Nieberg were on board / gave it their all.

Final rankings:
1st place: HFBK
2nd place: UHH
3rd place: TUHH
4th place: Fresenius
5th place: HAW
6th place: KLU
7th place: Macromedia
8th place: HSBA
9th place: HFH
