Mission

In the global economy of growing complexity the ability to creatively design and efficiently operate worldwide networks which are constantly in fluxand which have to respond to a host of constituents is a must for economic survival and a prerequisite for building up a competitive advantage.

The major constituents of growing complexity include technological development, environmental concerns, trade and infrastructure policy issues, moreintense global competition, persistent re-structuring of the firms’ boundaries and continuous change in customers’ preferences.

The mission of the MSc in Global Logistics of THE KLU, therefore, is to educate ambitious and demanding students to help companies facing
global supply chain issues

• to understand current and to develop creative new solutions in order to improve supply chain efficiencies and reduce cost,
• to understand, design and operate worldwide interconnected flows of information, goods, services, and capital,
• to understand current and to explore, evaluate and implement new strategic options by deeply understanding and anticipating their supply chainmanagement repercussions.
• to explore the fascinating world of research in intellectually one of the most challenging fields of business studies, logistics with extremely complex supply chains and interdisciplinary content of technology, business and leadership.

For that purpose, the MSc in Global Logistics of THE KLU focuses on the development of knowledge and skills

…in the area of Supply Chain Management by

• bridging the gap between theory and practice and providing insights into the latest research areas in SCM
• familiarizing the students with latest developments in information technology and decision support systems in SCM
• introducing the students to the main research methodologies
• understanding the implications an making use of new developments in the technical side of logistics

…in the area of Strategic Management and Business Economics by

• taking a cross-functional and inter-organizational perspective,
• specifically elaborating the interconnects between SCM on the one side and strategic management and global economics on the other side
• putting business into a global perspective and preparing students to exploit chances in a rapidly changing business environment
• understanding and responding to new developments in international trade and finance as well as in strategic decision making for sustainablecompetitive advantage

Thus, this program should prepare students to take on the responsibilities of business leadership (on the level of strategic business units) at anearly stage of their career or to continue their studies with a Ph.D. program.
