The aim of this inaugural workshop was to get an overview of research areas and to discuss research priorities. Participants made a start in aligning and defining research agendas, engaging in information exchanges, discussing complementary research projects and developing easily accessible pedagogical materials. Insights from the real world were given from a practitioner working in close collaboration with the IFRC (The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies), and with many years experience in humanitarian operations. He shared his views on the pressing problems and issues to be tackled, the practical relevance and usefulness of current academic research, and ways forward for more productive and effective collaboration between academics and practitioners.
THE KLU is addressing the academic challenges in this particular field through the creation of the KLU-INSEAD Research Center on Humanitarian Logistics, which was launched in the second half of 2011.
