First Smart City Salon - Logistics

Participants on stage in KLU auditorium

On October 15, Kühne Logistics University (KLU) held its first annual “Smart City Salon – Logistics” event. Organized as a means of bringing established companies, start-ups and academics together, the event will now take place at the university every year.

The mixture of new products from innovative start-ups, exciting speakers and interesting guests resulted in a completely successful series kick-off. President Thomas Strothotte of KLU welcomed the 80 guests in the university’s spacious auditorium. Dr. André Ludwig (Associate Professor of Computer Science in Logistics, KLU) gave a keynote speech on the digital transformation in logistics and Mirko Bass (Digital Country Transformation, Cisco) gave a speech examining the Port of Hamburg’s “Smart Road.”

In the pitch that followed, the start-ups floatility, Evertracker, and Asset Agents took advantage of the opportunity to present their innovative products.

Smart opportunities for start-ups & established businesses were the subject of the subsequent panel discussion involving Dr. Peer Witten (Logistics Initiative Hamburg), Dr. Christian Barrot (Assistant Professor of Marketing and Innovation KLU), Oliver Risse (floatility) and Marc Schmitt (Evertracker). They touched upon issues such as dealing with big data in logistics and how established companies benefit from start-ups.

The Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and its partner, Partner Workplace Solutions, were also represented at the first “Smart City Salon – Logistics” event. They presented an innovative traffic planning application for the Port of Hamburg on an interactive tabletop touchscreen.
