KLU among the top tier universities in the CHE ranking for master’s degree programs

In the latest ranking for master’s degree programs, released by the Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE), Kühne Logistics University once again took home top honors among German universities. Students especially valued the general studying conditions and the connections to the latest research, and the support offered by our instructors. The ranking assessed the following programs: Business Administration, Economics, Business Studies, Engineering Management and Business Informatics.

“Ensuring that their studies progress optimally for all of our students is among our most important responsibilities. As such, in the year of KLU’s 10th anniversary, I’m particularly pleased that our students have once again confirmed our uncompromising commitment to their development,” says KLU President Prof. Thomas Strothotte. KLU performed particularly well compared to other business schools and faculties of business administration in Germany achieving the highest marks in nine criteria, more than any other institute of higher learning in Hamburg. Throughout Germany, KLU is positioned in the same group as WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management (Vallendar) or Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) in the field of business administration master’s programs. The CHE ranking is based on surveys conducted with master’s students, as well as further aspects of teaching and research at the universities reviewed.

High student satisfaction ratings, despite the coronavirus pandemic

This year, the survey for the CHE’s latest ranking coincided with the unprecedented challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Thanks to its small class sizes and quarters-based academic year, KLU was in a position to respond flexibly. “For example, back in March, after the end of the first academic quarter, we managed to switch all teaching to online in the course of a single weekend,” says Prof. Christian Barrot, Dean of Studies at KLU, “and in September, classes commenced at their normally scheduled time, which was a major relief, especially for new students.” With the start of the second winter quarter in late October, KLU switched back to a hybrid format, which gave students the freedom to take part in all courses online, but to also attend selected courses on campus, in small groups.

Also top marks for our bachelor’s program

In the CHE’s overall university ranking for 2020/21, KLU placed among the absolute top German universities: our bachelor’s students praised the excellent studying conditions at KLU, giving us top marks across the board in all ranking categories. Further, this year KLU was also selected as “Germany’s Most Popular University” (StudyCheck.de).

KLU’s 10-year anniversary

At its campus in Hamburg’s Campus HafenCity and just a stone’s throw away from the Port of Hamburg, a hotspot for international logistics, KLU offers English-language programs for young people from around the globe. In 2020, KLU is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Since opening its doors to just 30 students in September 2010, the university has grown steadily. Today, it serves ca. 400 students, who can choose from four master’s programs and one bachelor’s program. More than 700 alumni have successfully completed their studies at KLU.
