KLU Enters New Partnership With THW

Cooperation between KLU and THW

KLU is broadening its network of partners: In January, 2019, the university entered a cooperation with German Technisches Hilfswerk (THW, Federal Agency for Technical Relief). Both institutions will work together in the fields of education, training, and research.

„Logistics is at the core of our daily work“, said Albrecht Broemme, President of THW. “Therefore, we are very happy to have a partner like KLU with a strong academic expertise and reputation in the field.” While members of THW will be able to participate in KLU’s Executive Education formats, covering topics like management, transportation, logistics, and supply chain management, KLU students will get the opportunity to do internships or write their theses with THW.

“We are seeing a strong wish among our students to employ their skills for a good cause”, said KLU president Thomas Strothotte. “Through our cooperation with THW, they will be able to gain hands-on experience in a unique organization within the humanitarian sector.”

The newly found cooperation will also see joint research on topics related to humanitarian logistics in cases of disaster response.

The Technisches Hilfswerk (THW, Federal Agency for Technical Relief) is a German Federal agency, belonging to the Federal Ministry of the Interior. It provides technical and humanitarian aid, both in Germany and abroad. The organizational structure of THW is unique in the world: The vast majority of its more than 80.000 members work on a voluntary basis.
