KLU Graduation 2022 Ceremony graduates walking into golden egg

It’s that time of the year again – 134 students have successfully completed their studies at Kühne Logistics University. The graduates, their families and friends came together a the festive ceremony in KLU’s auditorium, the Golden Egg. Those who could not attend in person watched the ceremony online.

KLU President Prof. Dr. Thomas Strothotte welcomed the graduates of the three master’s degree programs Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Global Supply Chain Management (Tricontinent), and Management; the MBA graduates in Leadership and Supply Chain Management – both from the open program and from the corporate HHLA program; the bachelor’s graduates in Business Administration, and those academics who successfully completed their doctorates at KLU.

Equipped to make the world a better place

He was accompanied by Dean of Research Prof. Maria Besiou and Dean of Programs Prof. Christian Barrot, as well as the other faculty members. In his speech, President Strothotte congratulated the graduates on their achievement and added: “Today you will move on from being students to being our alumni, all the while remaining part of our KLU family.” In addition, he thanked the graduates for their engagement or ‘citizenship’ beyond pursuing their own studies and career goals. “This is your KLU, because it is what you too have made it. On your way to completing your degree, each one of you have contributed to KLU, be it individually, through your class representatives, or even as a student ambassador. Now that you have your academic degrees under your belts, we hope you'll continue to be good citizens. You are ideally equipped to make the world a better place.”

Klaus-Michael Kühne: We count on you!

The President was followed on stage by the University’s founder and benefactor, Prof. Dr. h. c. Klaus-Michael Kühne, who continued the pre-COVID-19 tradition of addressing the graduates personally in the auditorium. In his speech, he expressed his faith in KLU graduates as excellently trained professionals and leaders able to use the knowledge and skills acquired during their studies to tackle the various and daunting challenges of our times. “There is an increasingly urgent need to find solutions that make the global flow of goods even more efficient and robust, and those that make logistics and global trade sustainably emission-free. And in this regard, we will count on you. Help us lead logistics into the future!” He than added: “You can be assured: Kühne Logistics University will continue to be a reliable partner for you in the future.”

The graduation speech was delivered by the Kühne Foundation’s Executive Director of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Jörg Dräger. The traditional student and alumni speeches followed, and Dr. Lea Rüsch was presented with this year’s KLU Best Dissertation Award, sponsored by the Dr. Jungheinrich Foundation. A further award was presented for the first time – the President’s Medal for Citizenship went to Magdalena Bürk, spokesperson of the student body (Bachelor of Business Administration).

Afterwards, the graduates received their certificates on stage, and then came the magical moment when they could finally switch the tassels on their mortarboards from left to right.

The Kühne Logistics University team wishes our graduates all the best and every success in their future careers. See you at the yearly Alumni Homecoming in November! We’re sure that we’ll stay in touch.
