KLU student and sport scholarship holder Malte Großmann (Favorite Hammonia) and the men's four won the B final and placed seventh in rowing at the 2022 European Championships in Munich. The team’s next big event will be the World Championships, starting in just five weeks.

With teammates Marc Kammann (Der Hamburger und Germania), Max John (ORCR), and Theis Hagemeister (FRG Germania), Malte Großmann especially enjoyed the championship in front of a home crowd.
"The European Championships in Munich were fantastic in terms of atmosphere,” Malte said. “With the victory in the B final and seventh place we have shown that we’re not far away from the absolute top. This gives us courage for the World Championships in five weeks – even if we’ve missed our goal of rowing in the A final,” he added. “With some fine tuning we can be even faster there and attack." The World Championships will take place in the Czech Republic.
With the 2022 European Championships, Munich hosted the biggest sports event since the 1972 Summer Olympics. From August 11 to 21, 2022, Europe's best athletes competed for coveted gold medals in beach volleyball, canoe racing, climbing, athletics, cycling, rowing, table tennis, triathlon, and gymnastics.

Malte Großmann is one of KLU’s sport scholarship holders. KLU is an official “partner university of high performance sport” represented by the Olympiastützpunkt Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein and Allgemeiner Deutscher Hochschulsport Verband (German University Sports Federation) and supports top athletes with a special sports program – both financially and by allowing for the balancing act between competitive sports and academic studies via flexible solutions in scheduling and exams.
