Summer and Sports: Our recipe for a great Open Day

KLU Open Day Summer sign

Around 80 prospective students and their families came to learn more about studying at Kühne Logistics University and enjoyed the summer temperatures, nice talks, tasty crepes and cold drinks. With a special talk by fencing star Britta Heidemann and the arrival of the KLU team after the HSH Commercial Bank Run, the second Open Day this year on June 22nd had a clear sports focus.

Some prospective bachelor students made use of this first opportunity to register directly on site during the "Direct Admission Day". "This new offer was very well received," reports Dirk Laschke, Head of Student Recruitment & Marketing. "Our students at KLU enjoy excellent support services and guidance throughout their programs. We aim to provide this service approach in all aspects, including the early phases of the application, which made the decision for a direct admission day a logical step.”

Lectures and campus tours

After the opening by KLU President Prof. Thomas Strothotte and an overview of Bachelor and Master degree programs a series of short lectures gave closer insights in the studies of logistics and management at KLU. Also, bachelor and master students shared their unique KLU experiences with interested people during personal campus tours.

Fencing Olympic Champion Britta Heidemann: You can achieve both

Olympic gold medalist and world champion in fencing Britta Heidemann showed in her talk why competitive sport and a successful university education go so well together. According to Britta Heidemann, top athletes learn how to present themselves as a brand at an early age. Soft skills like discipline and confidence are of great value for companies recruiting them after their sports career. Addressing the athletes in the audience, she said that an athletic career is not an obstacle to a successful academic career: "You can achieve both." Beyond competitive sports, she offered some useful tips for first-year students in general, such as pay attention to time management in order to achieve your goals. Furthermore, remove distractions to increase efficiency, in order to balance high-performance phases with free time for regeneration.
