The next step for KLU graduates

Students sit in front of golden egg

Providing high-quality, research-based education has been at the core of KLU’s mission since its very beginning in 2010. KLU aims to prepare its students to become responsible leaders – and to be their gateway to a world full of opportunities. Whether they decide to take their next steps at a company or NGO, or to continue their studies – and perhaps pursue an academic career – KLU is there to prepare them and support them on their way. In the following, three KLU graduates share their next steps after completing their studies with us.

“Just ten years after being founded, we have reached a level where the top KLU graduates are admitted to the most selective graduate programs around the globe,” says Professor Christian Barrot, KLU’s Dean of Programs. “This not only shows the excellent quality of our graduates but is also a result of our great support network at KLU. Our professors have first-hand experience as graduates or faculty members at many world-leading universities and, as such, can provide personal references and valuable advice during the application process.”

“This support process starts right after enrollment at KLU,” adds Professor Alexander Himme, Academic Director of the Bachelor’s Program. “For example, with our dedicated Dean’s List program and individual coaching for scholarship applications at major academic foundations.”

And this support pays off: today three KLU alumni share how they will continue their studies at some of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions.

Three Bachelor graduates from KLU report

“My undergraduate studies at Kühne Logistics University (KLU) were the ideal stepping stone for my postgraduate studies at the University of Sydney, and most recently the University of Cambridge. The small class sizes, outstanding faculty, open-door policy and state-of-the-art facilities in the beautiful setting of Hamburg’s HafenCity truly set the university apart. At KLU you’re not just a student ID number – you’re part of a dynamic community of students and academics working hard to tackle some of the world’s most pressing problems. I benefitted immensely from the close contact with faculty members and great teaching that characterize all the programs at KLU. My time at KLU inspired me to look into a career in academia, and I’m planning to embark on a Ph.D. program after completing my M.Phil. at the University of Cambridge. I wouldn’t want to have missed my time at KLU!”

Maik Wiedmann, B.Sc. in Business Administration (KLU, Class of 2019)
CEMS Master of Management (University of Sydney, Class of 2021), M.Phil. in Innovation, Strategy and Organisation (University of Cambridge, Class of 2022)

“My passion for emerging technologies and addressing societal challenges led me to the interdisciplinary field of computational social sciences. At KLU, I’d already delved into this area in my undergraduate thesis, in which I quantitatively investigated the different dynamics of disaster relief operations. My graduate studies in Technology and Policy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will help me take the next academic steps. Facilitated by an integrated research assistantship, the methodologically meticulous environment fits my plan to continue with a doctoral program on graduation.”

Philipp Zimmer, B.Sc. in Business Administration (KLU, Class of 2020)
M.Sc. in Technology and Policy (MIT, Class of 2023)

“After completing my Bachelor’s degree at KLU this summer, I’m going to work as a Visiting Associate at Boston Consulting Group and start the number one Master’s program in management (FT ranking since 2011), the SIM at the University of St. Gallen. With its unique combination of logistics, sustainability, and technology in an international setting, KLU has helped me to develop soft and hard skills in a range of topical, world-changing subjects. As KLU is still a very young university, it also allowed me to become an entrepreneur myself by founding the student consultancy ‘advisupply.’ I’m grateful for these opportunities and look forward to the adventures that await me.”

Paul Jordan, B.Sc. in Business Administration (KLU, Class of 2021),
M.A. in Strategy and International Management (SIM) at the University of St. Gallen (Class of 2023)
