Abstract

For many decades, 'Compliance' was perceived as a pure legal discipline to avoid any violations of laws and regulations. After a number of corporate scandals in the recent past and record breaking fines combined with a broad media coverage, 'Compliance' is no more seen as an isolated legal topic, but has reached the board room and is handled with high priority on the executive agenda. This transformation from pure conformity towards an integrity driven understanding of compliance is these days key to remain successful in a globalized business environment and has become a differentiator or even a strategic success factor. However, the driver for change is not only the continuously increasing regulatory pressure, but also due to raising expectations and transparency needs from clients, consumers, employees, competitors and a number of other stakeholders. This leads finally to the conclusion that compliance failures are no more an option and that compliance has become an important performance management driver.
To explain the most recent trends in Compliance, Britta Niemeyer will illustrate the basic principles of an effective state-of-the-art compliance program, describe today's and future requirements and share with the audience a couple of practical experiences from the perspective of a Chief Compliance Officer in the logistics industry.
