Abstract

Based on the often discussed megatrends in the economy, we can analyze the relevant drivers of logistics management development. Those are value orientation, customer orientation, international orientation, sustainability orientation, digitalization orientation and innovation orientation. The drivers and their consequences for logistics management will be discussed.      

Biography

Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Christian Pfohl, born 14.03.1942 in Gablonz, studied Business Management with Mechanical Engineering from 1962 to 1968 at Technische Universität Darmstadt, where he graduated in 1968 as Dipl.-Wirtsch.-Ing., in 1971 as Dr. rer. pol. and habilitated in 1975 with the “venia legendi” in business administration. From 1975 to 1982 he held the Chair of Business Administration with responsibility for “Organization and Planning” at the University of Essen. From 1982 to 2011 he held the Chair of Management and Logistics at Technische Universität Darmstadt. Since 2011 he is responsible for “Supply Chain and Network Management” at the Department of Law and Economics at the Technische Universität Darmstadt. Since 2000 he is also a professor with responsibility for “Management and Logistics” at the Chinese-German School for Postgraduate Studies (CDHK) in Shanghai, China. In 1996 he received an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Pannonia in Veszprém, Hungary. In 2011 he received the Order of Merit of the State of Hesse (grade: ribbon). 

Besides General Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management is Professor Pfohl’s main research interest. Prof. Pfohl contributes very actively through his research activities to new developments in General Management and to the development of logistics concepts. He cooperates intensively with companies of all sectors in applied research and consulting projects. The result of his research is documented in an extraordinarily extensive list of publications including books, articles in collected editions and journals as well as study reports. His books “Logistiksysteme” and “Logistikmanagement” have been translated into Polish and Chinese. The latter is also true for his book “Betriebswirtschaftslehre der Mittel- und Kleinbetriebe”.

  • Guest professor for “International Management” at the University of Pannonia in Veszprém, Hungary.
  • Guest professor for “Logistics” at the Vietnamese German University (VGU) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
  • Guest professor for “Logistics” at the Wroclaw University of Economics, Poland.
  • Scientific Director of Studies at Hessische VWA (Verwaltungs- und Wirtschafts-Akademie) Darmstadt.
  • Head of the Research Committee of the European Logistics Association (ELA) and member of the ELA Board.
  • Member of the International Advisory Board of the Faculty of Economics at University of Pannonia in Veszprém, Hungary.
  • Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journals Logistics Research, Logistique & Management and The International Journal of Logistics Management.
  • Editor of the book series “Unternehmensführung und Logistik” (Erich Schmidt Publishing House)
  • Member of the supervisory board of Schäflein AG (Logistics Service provider), Germany.
