Abstract

The parcel industry is booming. Fast growing E-commerce combined with the disruptive power of new technologies change the face of the industry. Rising parcel volumes, the entry of new competitors, technological innovations and demanding customers challenge the established players.

The lecture analyses the underlying reasons for the actual development in the parcel business, explaining the challenges for established and new delivery companies and giving an outlook how the industry might look like in the future.

Biography

Dr. Philip Nölling is Chief Financial Officer of DPD GeoPost Germany, one of the leading European parcel logistic companies.

Dr. Nölling studied Economics, Law and Economic Geography at the Universities of Hamburg and Heidelberg and holds an MA in Economics (1993). He received a PhD scholarship from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DfG) and wrote his  thesis at the Graduiertenkolleg at the College of Europe in Hamburg. His PhD  on "Great Britain's currency arrangements in conflict with the monetary integration of Europe" (1996) was one of the first doctoral studies conducted on the economic impacts of the Maastricht treaty. 

1996, Dr. Nölling started his professional career as personal secretary of CFO of Otto Group. He worked in the purchase department in Hongkong (1999) and was Head of Marketing Strategy Otto (2000). In 2001, Dr. Nölling became Managing Director of Germany's largest internet Information site, "Gruner + Jahr Computer Channel" in Munich. 

Retourning to Otto Group 2002, Dr. Nölling was  Director of Corporate Finance until he moved as CFO to Hermes Logistic Group in 2009. Since 2015 he is CFO of DPD GeoPost (Deutschland) GmbH.
