Next Generation Supply Chain Planning

Future generation technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), are being adapted by a growing number of businesses to optimize processes and remain competitive. Prospectively, AI will also become frequently applied within supply chain planning processes and for this reason, the planner will move from manually performed, repetitive routine activities to highly system-guided decision making and exception-based interventions that require human capabilities. This future process critically depends on the humans’ acceptance and use of the AI. So, to ensure a successful shift in the direction of future supply chain planning, we need to understand how AI-based system will exactly change current work and how this intensified human-machine interaction can be designed and realized successfully. In this research, we will conduct vignette studies to investigate the planner’s behavior.

Henrietta v. Eben-Worlée joined Kühne Logistics University as a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Kai Hoberg in September 2021. Before starting her PhD, she finished her Master’s in at the KLU and stayed as a research assistant for a project with the Bayer Consumer Care AG. The PhD project also is based on a cooperation with Bayer. In her PhD, Henrietta is focusing on behavioral research in the field of supply chain management. Particularly, she is interested in human-machine interaction by focusing on the shift from highly manual to AI-supported planning. Therefore, she conducts vignette experiments to investigate human behavior regarding the work with AI in the supply chain planning environment.
