Logistics Initiative Hamburg

The pursuit of sustainability will transform the logistics industry, both in terms of its business model as well as the range of advanced solutions and technologies that will be used by logistics service providers.  Yet many see a contradiction between economic growth and environmental protection, rather than realizing how they might go hand-in-hand. Logistics operators also need to meet the growing demand from customers for environmentally friendly services.

In November 2010, the Logistics Initiative Hamburg conducted an online survey among more than 180 logistics enterprises in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Over 40 % of the polled companies had already implemented one or more sustainable projects, while 25 % were in the planning phase. Sustainability can be a trend-setting business model, opening up new market opportunities and preparing for future scenarios.

This guest lecture provides a comprehensive overview of implemented or planned sustainability-related projects in the logistics sector. Spotlighted are subjects such as

  • The Means of Sustainable Management
  • Environmental Impacts of Logistics
  • Status quo and Forecast of Implementing “Green Logistics”
  • Strategies and Practical Examples for “Green Logistics”
  • Contributions by Public Authorities
  • Taking Social Responsibility
