Gijs Kool joined Kühne Logistics University in August 2022 as a researcher in the HEGEL project under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hanno Friedrich. The research focuses on exploiting the potential of hypernetworks in freight transport and logistics and is funded by the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz. Gijs' research focuses mainly on the potential of multimodal and intermodal transport in networks.

Gijs obtained his master's degree at Kühne Logistics University in 2022. In his thesis, he built a methodology with which supply and demand in intermodal transport can be geographically compared and attuned to each other. Gijs holds a bachelor's degree in Earth Sciences and Spatial Economics from VU University Amsterdam. Before and during his studies, he held operational positions with rail freight operators in the Netherlands and Germany.
