What are the specific qualifications and competences which are required for a management position in the field of logistics and supply chain management? This research reviewed the relevant literature as well as more than 800 job postings by means of content analysis and thematic mapping. Literature identifies nearly 300 skills and competences. Most of these skills refer to social skills. In contrast to that, analyses of the job postings include more cognitive and meta-competences than social skills. Furthermore significant differences in the required portfolio of skills and competences depending on the hierarchical level of the position can be found.
