In Review: Panel Discussion at KLU (October 31)

On October 31, the KLU hosted a panel discussion on “Economy as a punching bag? How we deal with responsibility” organized by the RespectResearchGroup. Sixty practitioners, researchers and interested members of the general public signed up to attend the critical reflection on a topic that has become increasingly important over the years.

Daniel Gläser, vice director of the RespectResearchGroup, moderated a thought-provoking discussion in which Paul Vincent Menken (the founder of, Dr Tobias Ursprung (private equity manager) and Dr Hauke Laackmann (business ethics, University of St. Gallen) addressed the opportunities, restrictions and consequences inherent in ascribing responsibility to companies and individuals. The discussion panel shed light on the topic from a perspective based on business ethics, management and customer needs. After the discussion, the audience was invited to comment and raise unanswered questions. To conclude the evening on an enjoyable note, everyone gathered for snacks, drinks and conversation in the relaxed atmosphere of the HafenCity illumination.

A panel discussion traditionally opens the annual RespectResearchGroup research colloquium. The colloquium promotes the exchange of ideas between practitioners and young researchers for the purposes of mutual inspiration and the resolution of practical issues.
