Scholarships (German)

Close to Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund (DGB), the Confederation of German Trade Unions.

Objectives

HBS deals with co-determination, research linked to the world of work and the support of students on behalf of the Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund, the Confederation of German Trade Unions. HBS is the second-largest scholarship fund in Germany, with a clear focus on social and trade union commitment. But the opportunities offered are not restricted to trade unionists. Besides a monthly grant, HBS also offers non-material assistance, for example seminars and practical work placements as well as supporting periods abroad. The foundation is looking for pupils with good grades and the prospect of an above-average degree, but also motivated, alert minds that are not indifferent to the state of the world they live in and who are actively involved in changing it. In measuring performance it also includes social skills and active social awareness.

 Requirements

  • Application is possible for pupils, master students, Ph.D. students from Germany or resident students with foreign citizenship as stated in BAföG § 8 (“Bildungsinländer”).
  • Personal and academic qualifications are important criteria.
  • Applicants are requested to be trade unionists or to be socio-political committed.
