On October 1, KLU hosted a panel discussion entitled “Respect and Control Tools in Organizations” organized by RespectResearchGroup. Practitioners, researchers and interested members of the general public signed up to attend the critical reflection on a topic that has become increasingly important over the years.

The panel addressed the effects of control tools on employees and questioned whether they are compatible with respectful leadership.

Daniel Gläser, director of RespectResearchGroup, moderated a thought-provoking discussion in which Dr. Yvonne Garbers (postdoc in the Department for Work and Industrial Psychology at Christian-Albrechts-University, Kiel), Dr. Marina Beermann (consultant at Systain Consulting GmbH, Hamburg) and Heiko Schulz (director of service and quality management at Techniker Krankenkasse, Hamburg) addressed the effects of control tools on employees and questioned whether they are compatible with respectful leadership. The discussion panel shed light on the topic from both the scientific and practitioner perspectives. After the discussion, the audience was invited to comment and ask questions. To conclude the evening on an enjoyable note, everyone gathered for refreshments and conversation in the relaxed atmosphere of the HafenCity lights.

A panel discussion traditionally opens the annual RespectResearchGroup research colloquium. The colloquium promotes the exchange of ideas between practitioners and young researchers for the purposes of mutual inspiration and the resolution of the practical issues associated with a specific topic. This year’s colloquium shed light on the topic of leadership, dealing with its challenges, chances and complexity. Organized by Jill Küberling, Susan Reh, and Jennifer Ulrich, the 2015 colloquium was held at KLU from October 2-4.
