KLU Athletes Celebrate Success at German Field Hockey Championship

KLU players have made it to the field hockey winner’s podium. KLU student Marie Jeltsch won silver with Club an der Alster. In the men’s competition, HTHC celebrated the bronze with KLU student Bili Ntuli as well as KLU alumni Kilian Pöhling and Maxi Schlüter. Benedikt Schwarzhaupt and Philip Schmid, both UHC and KLU alumni, took fourth place.

“If you look back at the season as a whole and you’re runner-up in Germany, you’ve certainly performed well. At the moment, however, the disappointment about losing the title predominates, especially since it was so close,” Marie Jeltsch said after the lost final. After tying 1:1 in normal playing time, the match was decided in a penalty shootout. The Mannheimer HC hosts became German Champion.

The men at HTHC had welcome results. With a 3:2 win in the game for third place against UHC, they secured the bronze, qualifying for the last starting position in the Euro Hockey League, the champions league in hockey. So the 1:2 semifinal defeat against subsequent German Champion Rot-Weiß Köln the previous day was at least partly forgotten.
KLU congratulates all six participants on making it to the final tournament and is looking forward to the upcoming season, hopefully with a similarly strong KLU presence in the final rounds.

KLU is an official “Partner University of Professional Sports” and partner to both the German University Sports Federation (ADH) and the Olympic Center Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein. As part of this cooperation, KLU offers both a targeted scholarship program for athletes at the national league level and tuition reductions for these athletes. In addition to financial aid, flexible and individual solutions are available to help students reconcile their studies with professional sports.
