As the congress will take place in Hamburg two years from now, two local students, KLU’s Alexander Kurmis (Master student in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management) and Daria Gehlken from TU Hamburg-Harburg, were invited to participate in this year’s event alongside young academics from across the Asian region. Fifty students from 16 countries teamed up to develop mobility concepts. Their task was to find ways familiar technologies could facilitate easier access to public transportation for children, the elderly, and the physically impaired.
Challenges of Urban Mobility
Alexander Kurmis came back to KLU with more than just the new insight he had gained at the congress. He had also won a prize. His team won the Most Comprehensive Mobility Award for their project. In the end, Kurmis, a Global Logistics student, was surprised to discover how similar the demands placed on urban mobility are globally. “It was interesting to see how Singapore is faced with nearly the same challenges as Hamburg. Even their approaches to finding solutions were incredibly similar,” he reflected.
