Making logistics green - New partnership of KLU, CO2OPT and Digital Hub Logistics

KLU and the Digital Hub Logistics Hamburg are partners since September. The focus of the one-year-long partnership is on the targeted support of the start-up CO2OPT by KLU and the support of KLU students by the Hub in start-up projects. KLU and the Digital Hub Logistics Hamburg have been in close exchange since its founding in 2017. As an international network for the logistics of the future, the Digital Hub unites companies, startups, investors, education and research under the common roof at Sandtorkai 32 in Hamburg's HafenCity.

As a partner, KLU specifically supports CO2OPT, a Hamburg-based start-up in the field of "Green Logistics" - a concrete implementation of KLU's mission to promote sustainability and entrepreneurship in logistics.

CO2OPT has developed an artificial intelligence-based platform that helps transport companies reduce their fuel costs by up to ten percent - while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions. The innovative technology uses vehicle data and other relevant information to determine the optimal combination of vehicle usage profiles and tires. This approach not only promises significant cost savings, but also provides greater transparency and saves time.

“In a business location such as Hamburg, we’re an important bridge between large companies and small start-ups,” explained Erik Petruschke, one of Digital Hub Logistics Hamburg’s two managing directors. “In supporting us,” he continued, “KLU allows us to assume a strong position here. They provide founders with a basis, thereby facilitating movement and continued development in entire industries.”

Co-managing director Johannes Berg added, “On the one hand, we operate successfully from the KLU campus, and on the other hand the partnership with CO2OPT is an important, pioneering example at a time after a true transformation which calls for more sustainability.”

Contributing to climate protection

For Frank Seeger, founder of CO2OPT, the collaboration is a great validation and bodes even greater prospects. “The Hub is an ideal setting for logistics,” Seeger said, “For us, it’s an honor that we were chosen for the partnership based on our contribution to climate protection. We’re really looking forward to joint projects with KLU and already have some promising ideas.”

KLU President Andreas Kaplan underlines the significance of this partnership, “The great challenges of our time, such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and shifting centers of global power necessitate new approaches – thinking out of the box, be it founding a start-up or within established companies. Entrepreneurship and a pioneering spirit are KLU values that have figured prominently since its founding. The partnership with Digital Hub Logistics, which aids our students in their launch plans, is another key component here.”

The collaboration between KLU, Digital Hub Logistics Hamburg, and CO2OPT will thus contribute to the creation of innovative solutions in the logistics industry which are advantageous for both business and environmental protection. This step marks a significant milestone towards a more sustainable and efficient future in logistics.
