Vaccination Days at KLU
COVID-19 vaccinations are an important part of the global fight against the disease and a step toward more normality in our day-to-day lives. In the last few weeks, KLU was fortunately able to offer its employees and students the option of being vaccinated. While many members of KLU had already been vaccinated at their own doctor’s practice or local vaccination center, over 60 members of the university community accepted it and were vaccinated directly on campus.
“We are very happy that it was possible to make this offer to members of the KLU community,” says Prof. Dr. Thomas Strothotte, President of KLU. Every member of staff and student was offered an appointment. The vaccination was then administered directly on KLU’s campus. On two separate dates, 66 members were vaccinated by KLU’s company doctor. The initiative was especially intended to simplify the process for university members coming from abroad, who in some cases did not yet have a family doctor in Germany.
The new semester: offering all possibilities
“We hope that these vaccinations will be one more step toward the return to on-campus teaching,” says KLU’s Dean of Programs, Prof. Dr. Christian Barrot. The new semester at KLU will start on September 1st. Right now, the plan is to begin the new semester with teaching taking place on campus, but offering the possibility to join online as well. “We know that some of our students, especially ones from abroad, may have difficulties coming back to campus on time,” Barrot explains. “Also, online learning will be offered just in case government restrictions continue to be in place. We are doing everything we can to make sure both options – studying on campus and online – will be available for all our students.”
In order to prepare for the new semester, KLU has equipped several classrooms with additional technology. Here, online and in-person teaching can be optimally combined, allowing interaction between students on campus and those at home. In addition, contact tracers on campus ensure easy follow-up of if needed.
“The safety of our students and staff is top priority for KLU at all times,” says President Strothotte. “With this in mind, and of course while satisfying all legal requirements, we hope to welcome our students back to our campus in the HafenCity again soon.”
