Brief description

The ChainLog project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWI)) aims to identify current examples, good practices, and guidelines for decision-making regarding the Blockchain technology for SMEs. In the light of the many possibilities for applying Blockchain and the numerous implementation alternatives, ChainLog is to provide a web-based tool for these companies. It will allow them to identify existing potentials and to prepare strategic decisions regarding the application of blockchain in a well-founded manner.

Project purpose

Blockchain technology provides new possibilities for small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) that handle logistics or manage supply chains, especially regarding transparency requirements. The supply chain partners work and maintain a common, tamper-resistant, single record on the Blockchain. In laymen's terms, a Blockchain can be understood as a decentralized database available in numerous implementation types with special features that offer advantages, especially in a cross-company context. Manufacturers, service providers, but also Internet of Things devices, can store data regarding product handling and state on the Blockchain. Hence, a Blockchain allows for a transparent overview, which is not only an advantage during escalating situations, but also offers supply chain managers and logisticians a reliable basis for planning and controlling their daily activities. Working together with experts from practice, KLU and its partners from Hamburg University of Technology aim to identify the potentials of  Blockchain for SMEs.
