Quantitative research study on environmental sustainability in humanitarian logistics - WREC

Dr. Jonas Stumpf (HELP Logistics AG)

Funded by Danish Refugee Council

Brief description

The project funded by the Danish Refugee Council aims to perform a quantitative study to measure the environmental impact along the supply chain of humanitarian logistics and to evaluate the effectiveness of existing and potential solutions to reduce that impact, to enable more sustainable approaches.

Project purpose

The project will measure the impact of humanitarian logistics activities (waste creation and greenhouse gas emissions) on the environment and pursues two main goals: a. for the humanitarian logistics community to become aware of the sector’s environmental impact and adopt a coordinated, scalable, and sustainable approach to measure and reduce that impact, and b. to support  humanitarian logistics practitioners to reduce their environmental impacts from waste and transport, not only while their operations are underway but also before they have begun and after they have ended.
