Moritz Petersen is a Senior Researcher at Kühne Logistics University and focuses on logistics and supply chain research and industry projects at the intersection of management and engineering. He is also a postdoctoral fellow at the Hamburg University of Technology, working on his Habilitation. His academic research interests include sustainability considerations in global supply chains (e.g., decarbonizing logistics operations or designing products in more sustainable ways) and applications of new technology in logistics systems (e.g., introducing Blockchain technology to logistics and supply chain management).
In his function at KLU, together with his team of researchers, he carries out publicly funded research projects, consults companies, and works for international organizations.
- In terms of publicly funded research projects, Moritz Petersen is a work package leader of the BMBF-funded HANSEBLOC project and of the European H2020 project CREAToR.
- He consults companies on operational and strategic logistics topics ranging from material flow management to reducing carbon emission or evaluating the impacts of digital transformation on established business models.
- For the World Bank, together with KLU colleagues, he developed a toolkit for governments to assess the nature and scale of logistics skill shortages. He is also a member of the World Economic Forum project community on “Blockchain in Supply Chains.”
Holding a scholarship from ThyssenKrupp, Moritz Petersen studied Industrial Engineering at HWI Hamburg. After having finished his diploma in 2010, he worked as a research associate at the Institute of Business Logistics and General Management at Hamburg University of Technology. During that time, he worked on research projects in the area of logistics and supply chain and industry projects with companies like Lufthansa Technik. He finished his doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kersten and joined KLU in July 2016.
