Moritz Petersen is a Senior Researcher at Kühne Logistics University and focuses on applied logistics research and industry projects at the intersection of management and engineering. In this function, he consults companies and works for international organizations:
- On the operational level, he investigated the material flow management of a large Vattenfall power plant and identified optimization possibilities.
- On the strategic level, he advised ship broker Frachtcontor Junge during their strategy development process with regard to the impact of digital transformation on their established business model.
- For the World Bank, together with KLU colleagues, he developed a toolkit for governments to assess the nature and scale of logistics skill shortages in their country and to derive policy recommendations.
- For the World Economic Forum, together with KLU colleagues, he is currently a co-curator for the WEF’s transformation map on “Supply Chain and Transport.”
His academic research interests include sustainability considerations in global supply chains with a focus on product sustainability and applications of new technology in logistics systems. Specifically, he focuses on introducing Blockchain technology to logistics and supply chain management.
Holding a scholarship from ThyssenKrupp, Moritz Petersen studied Industrial Engineering at HWI Hamburg. After having finished his diploma in 2010, he worked as a research associate at the Institute of Business Logistics and General Management at Hamburg University of Technology. During that time, he worked on several publicly funded national and international research projects in the area of logistics and supply chain management. Also, he worked on industry projects with renowned companies like Lufthansa Technik. He finished his doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kersten and joined KLU in July 2016.
