Prof. Dr. Thomas Strothotte on campus

For several years, we have been supporting selected students at our university with the ‘Deutschlandstipendium’, a scholarship which is partially funded by individuals or companies and matched by the German government.

Thanks to the generosity of private and corporate donations, in each of the last two years, we have been able to award twelve scholarships. These scholarships greatly helped the recipients continue their studies at KLU despite the challenges of the pandemic and allowed them to continue or become socially involved at KLU and beyond.

In the 2022/23 academic year, we would like to continue our high-level commitment to the ‘Deutschlandstipendium’ for the continued support of our student body.

To achieve this we need help, therefore, we are asking for you to support:

By making a tax-deductible donation of 1.800 € to the KLU Studienstiftung, which would be doubled by public funds, you will be providing one of our students with financial support for a whole year.

On this page, current KLU ‘Deutschlandstipendium’ holders share their stories and how receiving this scholarship has had an enormous impact on them.

Please join us by donating to this fund and helping to make a significant difference for our KLU students.

Thank you very much.

Prof. Thomas Strothotte, President & Managing Director Kühne Logistics University

Evelina Kirkach

The 2021/2022 academic year started as usual for me, but originally from Ukraine, I was greatly influenced financially and mentally by the war between Ukraine and Russia that began in February 2022. Deutschlandstipendium’s financial support allowed my family and I to support people in Ukraine. Also, it gave me the ability to buy equipment for attending lectures at home. By connecting with talented students, I believe that companies strengthen their role in the network and help young talents evolve professionally.

Shiladitya Das

Owing to the pandemic that affected the world, I went through some pretty tough days stressing out about the possibilities if I didn’t manage to find a job to cover my expenses. The financial aid provided by Deutschlandstipendium offered me a certain amount of relief as it covered a portion of my expenses. In addition, I managed to accommodate some of my time towards my passion for volunteering at Arbeiterwohlfahrt. The generosity bestowed upon me by this scholarship redefined the meaning of support for me and morally enlightened me with the desire to become a Good Samaritan. This scholarship could certainly continue to rescue students in phases of turbulence.

Alexander Nicolas Steimel

I dedicated a significant portion of my scholarship to acquiring software and hardware products that would complement me in my studies. As I was working and actively engaging in several pro bono initiatives alongside my studies, the scholarship came in handy. Given the financial support that is provided by this scholarship, young talent is supported in following their academic and professional interests and can therefore optimally decide on their prospective career path. Thus, sponsoring a student is not merely financial support but rather a door opener for the respective scholar.

The Deutschlandstipendium is a great honor that rewards outstanding achievements in academics as well as social engagement. As a student, finances are always short. And some extra money is therefore an extensive add-on which can be used by students to better focus on their studies and not suffer from distraction by work in addition to studying. Furthermore, it is very motivating to be appreciated and rewarded for your outstanding performance.

Gero Niemann, M.Sc. Management, Class of 2022

Jain Akshat

The scholarship helped me in financing my studies. I was able to use the scholarship money to help cover my monthly household expenses. I was able to take additional courses to support me in my studies. I would like to thank all the companies that are sponsoring the Deutschlandstipendium, as the scholarship not only helps us finance our studies but also motivates students to do better in academics in order to achieve these scholarships.

Akshat Jain, M.Sc. Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Class of 2022

Steffen Hübener

The Deutschlandstipendium helps me enormously in financing my studies. It enables me to concentrate on my studies and to volunteer for the university in my free time, especially at the student-run non-profit consultancy advisupply. Here I strive to create lasting added value for all students by organizing workshops with my team and bringing students into contact with companies. I also was a student ambassador, often represented KLU at digital fairs, and sought contact with prospective students. Ultimately, the Deutschlandstipendium is a great motivation for me. Knowing that I am supported always fills me with immense gratitude and gives me energy and strength in difficult times.

Steffen Hübener, B.Sc. Business Administration, Class of 2023

Your support goes to students who demonstrate both academic excellence as well as a high level of social engagement.

The Deutschlandstipendium helps students in need of financial assistance in order to better cope with the high costs of living in Hamburg. It has been our experience that especially international students benefit from this support. There have also been cases where the scholarship has aided in purchasing expensive academic literature, participating in summer schools, or attending conferences.

With the combined support of your donation and that of the federal government, recipients are in a much better position to achieve their academic goals.

One unique facet of this scholarship is that recipients of the Deutschlandstipendium benefit from a new flow of extramural contacts provided by their supporters. They gain access to a variety of career networks in economics, science, and society in Germany which may have otherwise been unattainable to them.

Huyen Phan

With the Deutschlandstipendium, I could completely finance my studies and living expenses in Hamburg. This brought me peace of mind. I could focus on health treatments without worrying about finding extra work. It freed up my time for activities like taking German courses, Student Ambassador activities, volunteering for Hanseatic Help and helping my colleagues. To me, Deutschlandstipendium is like a motivational gift and a benevolent investment at the same time. Many KLU students are like quality seeds with much potential but are lacking the right support. The Deutschlandstipendium may be just the support that helps push them to the next level.

Frederico de Ponte, Advisupply

The scholarship has allowed me to dedicate myself to three things that I would otherwise have less time for due to financial reasons. I focus more on my role as president at advisupply, allowing me to drive more growth. I have the time and freedom to pursue other volunteer activities. I now tutor disadvantaged children at an elementary school here in Mexico on a daily basis, and I can better integrate and do more activities during my stay abroad. The scholarship gives its holders the opportunity to focus more on essential topics relevant to their studies instead of on financing their studies and life. This has an added value that goes well beyond the 300 euros per month.

As I am pursuing the tricontinental program, one of the biggest challenges was the uncertainty and difficulty in planning the two semesters abroad. I was glad that at least both the first semester in Hamburg and the third semester in America could take place as planned and that I could learn a lot about the different cultures. The financial support has enabled me to live a more carefree life in the USA. In addition, I was able to experience more, which broadened my horizons as well as life experience – through online courses, for example, or cultural and recreational events. I also donated the monthly payment in March to Ukraine humanitarian aid.

Philipp Huber, M.Sc. in Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management (Tricontinent), Class of 2022

Robert Marten Rings

Getting additional financial backing from the Deutschlandstipendium enabled me to further increase my engagement within the KLU family, in the Academic Senate, for example, or as a student ambassador. It also provided further peace of mind as well as resources to make the most out of my semester abroad in France. It is a great way to support engaged and hard-working students in further pursuing their ambitions – without them worrying about financial shortages while providing an opportunity to try new paths and take new initiatives. Ultimately, it aids in making KLU the interactive and engaged community it is.

Robert Marten Rings, B.Sc. Business Administration, Class of 2023

Marten Ben Müller

The Deutschlandstipendium helped me in various situations. In my semester abroad it served as a helpful source of money, in addition to the ERASMUS program, which made the stay abroad so much less stressful. Further, I am able to go beyond my normal horizon as a student by receiving a reward for my work and engagement, thus catalyzing even more engagement in my actions around me, both academically and socially.

Marten Ben Müller, B.Sc. Business Administration, Class of 2023

Moritz Becker

I have largely saved my financial support from the Deutschlandstipendium to cover the costs of my semester abroad in the USA. Without it, I would not have been able to complete the semester abroad. The Deutschlandstipendium can have a big impact on the life and success of the scholarship holder with a relatively small monthly amount. Furthermore, sponsoring a student is not only financial support, but rather a door opener for the respective scholarship holder. With the financial support provided by the scholarship, young talent is supported in pursuing their academic and professional interests, and they are able to make the best decision for their future career path.

Moritz Becker, B.Sc. Business Administration, Class of 2023

Yes, this is possible. This would mean that one 1,800€ scholarship would consist of contributions from several separate donors.

Whether it’s 50, 100 or 500€, we are extremely grateful for each euro we receive and ensure that all incoming donations will be awarded solely and directly to the recipients.

Each euro donated will be doubled by the federal government.

You will have the pleasure of getting to know highly engaged and ambitious young people from all over the world.
